Private label, trademarks and designs
Private label puts your brand on the garment. Your label and artwork are yours to protect: register your brand where you sell, supply artwork you own and keep records.
What is private label clothing manufacturing?
The manufacturer makes garments that carry your brand: your labels, hang tags and packaging, on your designs or adapted patterns. You own the brand and the customer; the factory makes the garment.
What is the difference between private label and white label?
Private label is made to your specification or design under your brand. White label is a generic product the manufacturer already sells, with your label added, often the same product for several brands. Private label gives more control over design.
Do I need to register my brand and trademark before production?
A trademark is not required to sew a label into a garment, but registering protects your brand and avoids conflicts. Trademark rights are territorial, so register in the countries where you sell. Check availability before you print labels.
Can the label say Made in Türkiye and is it mandatory?
Rules for origin marking differ by destination. Where marking is required, the label states the country of manufacture. Ask your importer what your market requires, and we will print the label accordingly.
Who is the responsible entity on the label?
Some markets require a name and address on the product or packaging, for example for the importer or the manufacturer. In the EU, product safety rules ask for traceability details and a responsible economic operator. Confirm what applies with your importer.
Can I protect my designs with registered designs?
Registered designs protect the appearance of a product and are territorial, with systems such as the EU registered design, the UK registered design and Turkish industrial design registration. Talk to an intellectual property attorney about what suits your collection.
What if my print or design copies someone else’s?
You are responsible for the rights to artwork you supply. Use original or licensed artwork and keep your licence documents. A manufacturer cannot verify ownership of every print.
Can I register the trademark in Türkiye as well?
Trademark rights are territorial. If you produce in Türkiye, registering there can help against counterfeits. An intellectual property attorney can advise on the filing and timing.
General information, not legal or customs advice. Rules change and differ by country: confirm the details that apply to your shipment with your customs broker or importer.
