Sizing and fit

A size run lists the sizes in an order and a ratio says how many of each. Clear measurements, agreed tolerances and a fit sample are what keep fit problems and returns down.

How do wholesale size runs and ratios work?

A size run is the list of sizes in an order, for example S to XL. A ratio sets how many of each size you want, for example 1-2-2-1. Base ratios on your own sales history, or ask for a starting suggestion for your market.

Do you use EU, UK, US or Gulf sizing?

Sizing systems differ and brands define their own. Tell us which system your label should use and send a size chart with body measurements. We grade to that chart and confirm it on the sample.

Are measurements given in body or garment dimensions?

Both appear in practice. Body measurements describe the wearer; garment measurements describe the finished piece. A size chart with body measurements plus a measurement chart of the garment is the most reliable reference.

What tolerances are acceptable for measurements?

Tolerances are the small allowed differences between specified and finished measurements, often around one to two centimetres depending on the point of measure. Agree them in the tech pack so inspection has a clear standard.

How do you handle plus-size grading?

Proportions change across a size range, so plus sizes need a properly graded pattern and a fit sample in a larger size, not only the sample size. Differences in bust, waist and hip are corrected on the sample.

What stretch percentage do I need for knit or stretch woven fabric?

It depends on the fabric, the style and the fit you want. Stretch woven fabrics often carry a small percentage of elastane, while knits stretch more. Test recovery on a sample rather than choosing from a number alone.

How do I reduce returns related to fit?

Publish accurate size charts and garment measurements, fit-test on a model in more than one size, choose a size ratio based on your customers, and describe fit honestly, for example relaxed or oversize.

What is the difference between petite, regular and tall lengths?

Lengths are adjusted for height ranges: petite for shorter customers, tall for taller customers. If you sell several, specify the length per range in the tech pack and quote each one.
