The garment sampling process, step by step

The approval gates between a design and bulk production.

First sample

The first sample is made from your brief or tech pack. Judge fit, proportions and details, and write comments against the specification.

Correction rounds

Each round fixes the comments from the previous one. Send comments as a numbered list with photos, and keep the number of rounds low by being specific.

Size set and colours

A size set checks grading across the run. Lab dips and strike-offs confirm colour and print before the fabric is made in bulk.

Pre-production sample

The pre-production sample is made with production fabric and trims. Approving it in writing sets the standard that bulk goods are checked against.

Frequently asked questions

How many sample rounds are normal?

It depends on how complete your brief is and on the style. Clear references and measurements reduce the number of rounds.

Is the sample made in the real fabric?

Sample in the production fabric whenever you can, so you approve the real drape, weight and colour.
